Welcome New Director of Special Services
Good Afternoon,
The Silver Falls School District is pleased to announce the hiring of Spencer McEwen as the district's new Director of Special Services beginning July 1, 2026.
Following a rigorous interview process involving a number of highly qualified applicants, Spencer emerged as the clear choice to help lead and support special services across the district. His background in student services leadership, MTSS implementation, special education systems, and innovative instructional support made him stand out throughout the process.
Spencer brings more than 10 years of educational leadership experience serving students, staff, and families in a variety of roles including Assistant Director of Student Services in the Estacada School District, Student Services Administrator in the Oregon Trail School District, elementary principal, MTSS (Multi-Tiered Systems of Support) Teacher on Special Assignment, instructional coach, and classroom teacher. MTSS is a framework schools use to provide different levels of academic, behavioral, and social-emotional support to help all students succeed. Throughout his career, Spencer has focused on building strong systems of support for students while helping staff strengthen instructional practices and intervention systems.
Most recently, Spencer helped design and launch an AI-supported MTSS system integrating instructional technology tools to support staff planning and student intervention pathways. He has also led district work connected to PBIS (Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports) and RTI (Response to Intervention), a process used to identify and provide additional academic support for students who may be struggling. In addition, he has supported special education programing, professional learning, and data driven decision making.
Superintendent Kim Kellison shared, “We are incredibly excited to welcome Spencer to the district. His experience, exceptional performance as an elementary teacher, innovative thinking, and student-centered approach make him an outstanding addition to our leadership team.
Spencer will replace Brandon Larson, who has accepted an administrative position in another district. The district would like to thank Brandon for his dedication, leadership, and service to students, families, and staff during his time at SFSD. His work supporting special services programs and building strong relationships across the district has been greatly appreciated, and we wish him the very best in his next leadership role.
“I am excited to join the Silver Falls community and school district and to be a part of their innovative work moving forward,” said Spencer.
Please join us in welcoming Spencer McEwen to the Silver Falls School District.
