Halloween Costume Guidelines

As Halloween approaches, we’re excited to let students participate in the fun by allowing them to wear costumes to school on Friday, October 30th. However, we want to ensure that all costumes are appropriate for our school environment and daily activities. Please note the following important guidelines to help your child enjoy the day safely and comfortably:

  1. No blood, gore, or inappropriate imagery – Please avoid any costumes that include violent or frightening elements.

  2. Costumes should be worn all day – Students should be able to wear their costumes comfortably throughout the school day, including in the classroom, at recess, and during PE.

  3. No masks – Masks can obstruct vision and will not be allowed. Face paint is acceptable as long as it follows our guidelines.

  4. No weapons or props – For safety reasons, no toy weapons or accessories (swords, wands, etc.) should be brought to school.

  5. Costumes are worn at your own risk – With activities like recess, PE, and moving around the school, costumes may get a little dirty or damaged. Please keep this in mind when choosing a costume for your child.

  6. Be able to participate in PE – Costumes should allow full participation in physical education, so please ensure they are easy to move in and won’t restrict movement.

  7. No Blow Up Costumes - This is not something that has proven to work during the school day.

As a reminder, all costumes must follow the SFSD and Robert Frost dress code. We look forward to seeing the creative and fun costumes! Thank you for helping us make this a safe and enjoyable day for everyone.

OBOB Update: Teamwork, Team Spirit & Reading Fun!

We’ve had 3 awesome OBOB practices so far, and we’re off to a fantastic start! We have 29 students participating this year, divided into 7 teams. It’s exciting to see our readers learning, growing, and getting ready for a great OBOB season!

At our most recent practice, we watched a read-aloud of A Little Spot of Teamwork by Diane Alber. We also put our collaboration skills to the test with a fun Author & Title Match Game! Our readers are practicing not only their book knowledge but also the teamwork that makes OBOB so special.

A BIG shout-out to our amazing parent volunteers! Thank you to everyone who has signed up to bring snacks. Your generosity helps make our practices extra special, and we truly appreciate your support!

Mark Your Calendars!

Our next OBOB practice will be November 4th from 3:00–4:00 p.m.

We can’t wait to keep building our teamwork, celebrating great books, and having fun together. Happy reading, everyone!

A MESSAGE FROM MRS. WOLD

4th & 5th Grade Literacy Focus

Our amazing 4th and 5th Grade teams are focusing on building stronger, more confident readers this fall through an intentional focus on reading fluency!

What is reading fluency?

Reading fluency is the ability to read accurately, smoothly, at an appropriate pace, and with expression. When students become more fluent readers, they are able to focus more of their attention on understanding and enjoying what they read.

Our 4th and 5th Grade teams will be using a consistent fluency routine that gives students multiple opportunities to practice reading connected text:

Choral Reading – Students read along with their teacher and classmates, hearing and practicing fluent reading.

Cloze Reading – Students follow along as the teacher reads and take turns providing missing words, helping them pay close attention to the text.

Partner Reading – Students read with a partner, practicing accuracy, pace, and expression while supporting one another.

Students Tracking Their Own Growth

An important part of our fluency work is helping students see and take ownership of their own growth. Students will regularly progress monitor their reading fluency and track their results with the support of their teachers and staff.

Students will be able to celebrate their progress, set goals, and recognize that growth happens through practice!

How Can Families Help at Home?

Families can help build fluency by making reading practice a regular part of the day:

  • Have your child read aloud for a few minutes each day.

  • Take turns reading pages or paragraphs together.

  • Reread familiar texts to build confidence, accuracy, and smoothness.

  • Model fluent reading by reading aloud with expression and appropriate pacing.

  • Talk about what you read to make sure reading fluency is supporting comprehension.

  • Celebrate growth! Encourage your child to notice improvements in their reading rather than focusing only on a score.

We are excited about the work our 4th and 5th Grade teams are doing to build fluent, confident readers and to help students become active participants in their own learning and growth! 🐻📚
